Bamboo

The origin of the word Bamboo comes from the Malay word "Mambu".

Bamboo belongs to the perennial evergreen grass family and is the largest type of grass in the world, and the only type of grass that can diversify into forest. It takes only 3 to 5 years for a bamboo to be fully matured, and is therefore known as the fastest growing plant in the world. Bamboo plants do not increase in diameter like trees do as they age. They also don’t grow any taller than the height that they have reached after 1 year. Heights can range from a few centimetres to 40 meters, with stem diameters ranging from 1 mm to 30 cm. As it matures, it grows side branches and branchlets until maturity.

Bamboo is native to the tropical and sub-tropical regions of Australia, Asia, the Americas, and Africa , but can also grow in a variety of climates and is known to even survive in extreme conditions where most plants can’t.

Bamboo Is A Renewable Resource – When it is harvested, it will continue to grow new shoots from its amazing root system. Every part of the plant can be utilized in one way or another with zero waste. Bamboo is also known for its versatility In Building Material – The tensile strength of bamboo is one of mother nature's most intriguing phenomenon's. The symbolism of the bamboo plant runs deep and offers practical lessons for life and for work.

Bamboo is known to survive in extreme heat. The most famous example of such conditions is the bamboo grove that survived the radiation and incinerating heat blast of the atomic bombings in Hiroshima, Japan in 1945. No other plant life remained.

The bamboo comes in a variety of applications, the material can be cross cut to showcase its hollow rings, or pealed and flattened to form a pattern. Depending on the design, the bamboo is cut and inlaid, and usually a grout is placed to fill in gaps. A clear coating is then applied and buffed.
